A FCT funded (BTI) Bolseiro Técnico de Investigação (Lic. ou Bacharel) 1 (€745/month) position in avian evolutionary biology is available at CIBIO, Vairão Portugal. The BTI1 position is available for 3 years, with an initial appointment for 1 year and the possibility of extension for two more years.

The successful applicant will be involved in a project investigating the role of ecology and behavior in peripheral isolation and divergence of isolated avian populations in the Caucasus – an internationally recognized area of avian endemism. The BTI1 will be responsible for the lab work related to DNA extraction, PCR, preparation of samples for sequencing, proofreading and assembly of sequences, and some analyses.

The ideal candidate should hold an undergraduate degree in biology, have some molecular lab experience, and be interested in entering the MSc program at CIBIO. The working language in CIBIO is English, so the candidate should have a good knowledge of written and spoken English. The project will begin in April 2010.
